Tahoe Hotels
There's more to Lake Tahoe than just ski resorts. You can enjoy skiing or snowboarding in the winter or fishing and hiking in the summer. Most Tahoe hotels are situated within only a few miles of the area's biggest attractions.
As always, before planning any trip, know how much can afford to spend. There are some Tahoe hotels that charge less than $100 per night while still providing comfortable accommodations. The saying, "You get what you pay for," is usually true.
If the rates sound too good to be true, they probably are, but look for any reviews that you can find before deciding to scratch any hotels off your list.
For example, the Tahoe Inn, which only charges $29 per night, received an overall rating of two and half stars from TripAdvisor.com customers. Most reviewers disliked this hotel and gave specific reasons why. If you can afford to pay at least double per night, you might want to consider someplace different.
The Cottage Inn at Lake Tahoe, on the other hand, received an overall rating of five stars. Room rates start at $145 per night, so prepare to pay for the great service and amenities. All rooms have fireplaces and a "rustic" theme.
As Tahoe hotels go, this one might be an acquired taste. Take a look at the photos of the rooms that they've posted on their website before making any final decisions.
If you decide to book your room through Expedia or Orbitz in order to save a little money, make sure you know the cancelation policies. Some hotels won't allow you to cancel your reservations if you made them through sites like Expedia, so call the hotel before you make your reservations.
Your other option is to pay an additional $100 or more for travel insurance to cover any unexpected mishaps.
You don't have to break the bank to enjoy your Lake Tahoe vacation. You just have to plan well in advance and, as always, shop around for the best rates.
With so many Tahoe hotels available to choose from, you should be able to find something that's right for you.
